“Creativity is an act of defiance.”
JULIETTE MARTINEZ
Providing a safe haven for the youth of our community and creating opportunities for dancers to pursue their dreams is my passion. Witnessing the growth of my students through their training inspires me and I am grateful to have the privilege to mentor them throughout their journey.
Instructor Biography
Juliette Martinez, a San Diego native, discovered her passion for dance at the age of two.
She honed her skills through training with Tessandra Chavez and Kevin Frey at a local studio,
and later received the majority of her training in Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet, Tap, and
Hip Hop Choreography during her competitive training at Evoke Dance Movement and Mather
Dance Company. Graduating with honors from Orange County School of the Arts in the
Commercial Dance Conservatory in 2018, she performed in principal roles of George
Balanchine’s Apollo and Serenade, and established a lasting relationship with YoungArts as a
Winner in 2017. Throughout her high school years, she toured the country as an assistant for
several renowned dance conventions and esteemed choreographers. Juliette constantly pursued
training opportunities of the highest caliber. She had the opportunity to train with the Joffrey
Ballet School, as well as numerous programs produced by Francisco Gella Dance Works.
Upon moving to Los Angeles to attend UCLA, she continued to work professionally,
both nationally and internationally, with credits including So You Think You Can Dance, the
YouTube Streamy Awards, LA Opera: La Traviata, Generation (HBO Max), and live
performances with notable artists. Juliette has worked as a model for brands including Uniqlo,
Away Travel, and Vogue Italia. Most recently, Juliette has partnered with Nike as a brand
ambassador at Coachella 2024 and is working as a performer at Legoland California.
Juliette earned a B.A. in Dance and a B.A. in Gender Studies from UCLA in 2022.
Throughout her time at UCLA, Juliette explored her choreographic voice and presented new
works that combined her prior knowledge of contemporary-based movement with her newfound
passion for Street Dance. Her journey led her to pursue intense training opportunities that
provided her with a deep understanding and appreciation of history, vocabulary, and freestyle in
the Street Dance forms of Hip Hop, House, and Popping. She was Director for an on-campus
dance team, ACA, and successfully created an authentic Street Dance curriculum, which sparked
her interest in sharing and teaching Street Dance forms, specifically Hip Hop and House.
Following graduation, she continues to build her knowledge in dance forms to better
serve as a guide, mentor, and educator to the next generation. As an active member of the Street
Dance community, Juliette is honoring Hip Hop culture, participating in Street Dance forms, and
preserving the history of these forms to share with the passionate and talented students of the
next generation. Her perspective on the relationship and intersection between classical and
contemporary dance forms and street dance forms drives her artistic voice and establishes her as
a unique educator. She has been selected by various organizations to present and set her work in
New York, Los Angeles, New Mexico, Santa Barbara, and San Diego, earning critical acclaim,
and is a faculty member at Danceology in San Diego and the Windward School in Los Angeles.
Juliette's dynamic career is marked by notable achievements in both the dance and
business sectors. She has made significant contributions as a Company Trainee and Resident
Assistant at Zeitgeist Dance Theater in Santa Fe, NM, and as a Hip Hop Faculty member at the
prestigious, LA-based, New Years Training Camp. Alongside her flourishing dance career,
Juliette is furthering her academic pursuits by working towards a Master’s in Business
Administration at SDSU. Her entrepreneurial spirit is evident in her role as President and CEO of
Harmony Brand Studios, LLC, and she is also the producer of the highly acclaimed “Sunday
Series” workshop event, as well as the Street Dance event “Coastal Jam”. This exceptional blend
of artistic talent, educational dedication, and business acumen marks Juliette as a multifaceted
and influential individual in her respective fields.
